She received her HBA degree in Anthropology from the University of Toronto and worked for four years at a psychological assessment publisher. She then studied at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) in Toronto. She completed a subsequent 2-year Clinical Residency position at CCNM and is licensed by the Board of Directors of Drugless Therapy ? Naturopathy (BDDT-N) in Ontario.

Dr. Kitaeff was the first Western graduate from Meiji College of Oriental Medicine in Osaka, Japan in 1975 and a member of the first graduating class of naturopathic physicians from Bastyr University in 1982. He was founding academic director of the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, one of the first acupuncture colleges in North America and founding president of the Acupuncture Association of Washington.
