Health is much more than just the absence of disease — it is the presence of vitality and feeling beyond just healing.

Hi, I’m Dr. Katie Brussard (formerly Disharoon)!I’ve been treating patients with natural medicine since 2011 when I graduated from Naturopathic school in Portland, Oregon. Since then, I’ve found I love working with patients who have chronic issues with their gut, suffer from hormonal imbalances, problems with their immune systems and experience pain in their bodies. My favorite thing is educating patients about their own bodies because, after all.

I believe that the amazing human body has the ability to heal itself, when the obstacles to cure are removed. Environmental toxins, toxic food, inadequate sleep, low oxygen intake, low nutrient intake, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, inadequate digestion, pain (physical, emotional, spiritual), infection, neuro-transmitter imbalances, genetic polymorphisms, cell signaling disruptions, and lifestyle choices are just a few of the obstacles to cure many people face.

Identifying the obstacles to cure that are unique to each person is imperative and choosing the right treatment/therapy for each person is also imperative. The whole you must be treated properly to see the results you want.

Dr. Joshua Hersh NMD, (Naturopathic Medical Doctor), received his Naturopathic Medical Degree from Bastyr University and prior to that his Bachelors of Science from Brigham Young University. During his time at both Universities he was fully engaged in the rigorous advancement of research and furthering scientific knowledge and participated in research in Parkinson’s Disease. At Bastyr University he was a teacher and a leader.

There he excelled becoming a tutor for medical students in Clinical Diagnosis, Immunology, Pathology, Infectious Disease, and Biochemistry. In addition to gross anatomy, cardiology, neurology, herbalogy, geriatrics, grand rounds, minor surgery, environmental medicine, rheumatology, oncology, pharmacology, dermatology, etc, he also studied craniosacral therapy, spirituality, homeopathy, massage and endocrinology.

He has received Post Doctoral training in IV Therapy, Integrative Oncology, Chronic Infections, Lyme Disease, Gastrointestinal Health, Migraines, Mental Health, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, Parkinson’s Disease, Prolotherapy, Platelet Rich Therapy and more. With a wealth of knowledge, he educates and empowers his patients. He thoroughly researches safe and effective therapies for his patients and his recommendations are based on sound scientific research and clinical experience.

His main focus and goal, as your doctor, is seeing you, his patient, heal and live an abundant life!.

Over 2,000 years ago Hippocrates stated the two primary causes of illness: nutrient deficiencies and exposure to environmental toxins, which is as true today as it was then. But today we are also dealing with a wide range of pathogens. So nutrition plays a very important role in healing as does purification therapies to detoxify the cells of the body of stored toxins. Therapies include Lymphatic Hydrotherapy, saunas, colon hydrotherapy and intravenous therapies such as vitamins and minerals, ozone, UV and chelation.

But the crux of the issue comes down to the function of the engines of every cell, called the mitochondria which make energy or ATP. Lowered mitochondrial function, or a decline in energy, is the cause of symptoms and aging. Toxins, pathogens and nutrient deficiencies reduce their function. To improve their function requires specific nutrients, purification therapies to rid cells of toxic residues and to stimulate their function and numbers.

Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary health care profession, emphasizing prevention, treatment, and optimal health through the use of therapeutic methods and substances that encourage individuals’ inherent self-healing process. The practice of naturopathic medicine includes modern and traditional, scientific, and empirical methods. Naturopathic practice includes the following diagnostic and therapeutic modalities: clinical and laboratory diagnostic testing, nutritional medicine, botanical medicine, naturopathic physical medicine (including naturopathic manipulative therapy), public health measures, hygiene, counseling, minor surgery, homeopathy, acupuncture, prescription medication, intravenous and injection therapy, and naturopathic obstetrics (natural childbirth).

Dr. Carmel Ferreira is a Naturopathic Medical Doctor and Licensed Acupuncturist. Dr. Ferreira received her Bachelor’s of Science in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz in her home state. She worked as a Research Associate in Cardiology and Hematology Medical Research at various reputable institutions while preparing herself for medical school.

Her desire to practice Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) never ceased to grow throughout this time. After searching for a medical school that would allow her to follow her passion she then found the specialty of naturopathic medicine and left her career in medical research after enrolling. In order to compliment her studies in conventional medicine and CAM she then sought to acquire a strong foundation in eastern medicine, leading her to also pursue an education in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Her search to become a holistic practitioner lead her to simultaneously attend naturopathic medical school at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (SCNM) and her Masters at the Phoenix Institute of Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture (PIHMA) in Arizona. With much dedication in attending two professional programs simultaneously, Dr. Ferreira was able to obtain her professional Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine at SCNM and her Masters of Science in Acupuncture at PIHMA.

Upon completion of her medical boards she then completed the STAIR Integrative Residency through Bastyr University, which was sponsored by Integrative Therapeutics. Dr. Ferreira has always felt the need to be involved with her community and for this reason has volunteered at various clinics and hospitals in California, Arizona and Utah since 1996. Upon moving to Utah she felt impressed to find an organization that she can volunteer her professional skills, that would allow her to serve a population that had a great need.

She was able to learn more about the Cancer Wellness House in Salt Lake City and has been volunteering since. Dr. Ferreira assists cancer patients by providing acupuncture in addition to counseling of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). Her life long passion and dedication to the health care field has continued to drive her to work in the public’s eye as to inform of resources available as to empower individuals of their own health.

During her down time Dr. Ferreira enjoys being outdoors by participating in hiking, trail running, snowboarding and practicing the art of fire poi. These are only few of the activities she loves. Her greatest passion has been in the kitchen, creating nutritious dense foods that are packed with flavor. She is also enjoys practicing spiritual meditation and is an active member in her church and congregation where she also volunteers in various affiliated activities.

Women’s wellness and optimal health is very important to me. So besides creating a beautiful and safe space for birthing families, I am doing more with my training in Botanical Medicine provide herbal health consultation, so I can work with patients in the clinic with a range of health concerns from fertility, menstrual irregularities, to annual check-ups and/or lab work. Wasatch Midwifery and Wellness was born out of a deliberate awareness for providing the best care by maintaining excellent systems, workflow, and team cohesion, as well as keeping a healthy balance for the staff and myself.

It feels great to have a practice in which I can provide a truly individualized model of midwifery care and really ‘walk the walk,’ not just talk the talk, with everything we do. We truly love what we do, and we have a lot of fun doing it!.

I’m a woman, a medical provider, a mom, a mentor, and an advocate. I am a midwife. Growing up on a farm in rural central New York, I witnessed natural birth and natural living for as long as I can remember. From a young age I understood the basic concept that birth is a natural process – as it has been for ages – and fell in love with the beauty and power of creating life. So, when I sought out a midwife in 1995 to have a home birth for the first of my three children, Caleb, I was shocked at how medicalized and politicized the business of birth was, and how marginalized and misunderstood the practice of midwifery had become.

And that’s when I became a birth advocate. I got involved in the political work of supporting informed choices for women and families, and founded grassroots consumer-based birth advocacy groups. I then went on to study women’s studies and sustainable leadership at Goddard College and Prescott College, and midwifery at Maternidad La Luz in El Paso, TX, and have attended hundreds of births all over the country – from the South, to the East, and now in the West.

I have served women in rural and intercity areas and from the process of family planning all the way through postpartum care. My focus is sharp, and my experience is broad. I’m Adrienne Brown, and I’m a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and a Licensed Direct-Entry Midwife (LDEM) who provides modern, comprehensive, and expert care for women as they create and grow their families.

Dr. Alexander Haskell, ND – Naturopathic Physician
Clear Health Centers
3350 Highland Drive
Salt Lake City, UT 84106

Haskell has been in practice for over 34 years. ‘You have to discover the causes for why a person is unwell. You can’t just treat symptoms or labels. And if you can understand and address these causes then the miraculous capacity of the body to heal will take care of the rest. It is a matter of respecting the innate wisdom of the body and believing in this capacity to heal.’

Haskell incorporates a wide range of lab testing, as well as viewing a tiny drop of the client’s blood under a microscope. All this information is important and then a program is designed to correct imbalances.

He believes there are three primary causes for why a person becomes ill.

The first is nutritional deficiencies. If the cells aren’t fed then their function declines and the person has symptoms.

The second is environmental toxins which we are exposed to every day of our lives. We have to reduce our exposure (in our food, air and water) and then help the body to detox.

The third is chronic silent low-grade infections which most people are unaware of. This can be bacterial, viral and mold. This has to be investigated and then through the use of various therapies, reduce their population.

This is the ideal of holistic medicine which recognizes the body’s innate capacity to heal and using primarily natural remedies to promote health and vitality.
