My journey to becoming a Naturopathic Doctor began many years ago before I knew the profession existed. Like many doctors-to-be, I knew that I wanted to help people feel better. I spent many hours volunteering at organizations such as AIDS Niagara & Big Brothers & Sisters of Niagara, and was a research assistant, all the while obtaining my four-year Honours degree inCommunity Health Sciencesat Brock University.
During my third year of university I spent one month volunteering at an all-girls orphanage in Cusco, Peru. It was here that I realized my goal of helping people to feel better just wasn’t enough. I wanted to be a part of my patient’s healing journey. I wanted to provide them options and most of all I wanted to help them heal themselves. I completed a four-year, full-time doctor of naturopathic medicine program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine.
During my clinical training I spent 8 months at the Sherbourne Health Center in downtown Toronto whose primary focus was to provide treatment and support for those affected by HIV. After graduation I became a member of the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors and Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors and am registered with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario. Since then I have done further training in Bioenergetics and Biotherapeutic Drainage as well as received certification in Usui Reiki.
My Naturopathic practice focuses on the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, cellular, and environmental spheres of health to heal. It is my job to make the connections between your health concerns in order to find the solutions, address root cause, and help you feel empowered on your health journey. I believe in working as a team with other health care professionals for the optimization of your health and I understand the importance of evidence-based care in certain aspects of Naturopathic medicine.
I see a wide variety of conditions and patients of all ages. Over the last nine years I have developed a special interest in:Hormone health including thyroid conditions, stress management/adrenal dysfunction, and women’s hormone balance such as PMS, PCOS, peri-menopause, & menopause. Children’s health including leaky gut syndrome, food intolerances, and eczema. I also treat many people with:Mental/emotional health concerns including depression and anxiety.
Digestive health concerns: SIBO, leaky gut syndrome, and food intolerances. Autoimmune conditions. When you’re treating from a holistic perspective there is no way to treat just one area. For example, if you have a thyroid condition it is also imperative to discuss digestive health, the potential for autoimmunity, chronic infections (ex: SIBO) and heavy metal exposure. used to say in my spare time I love to travel and spend time outdoors, mindfully taking in my surroundings and enjoying a coffee.
Nowadays, I thrive in the craziness of a household with an active toddler and vibrant baby, a husband, and our cats Oliver & Sushi who make me laugh and keep me smiling regularly. We still love to travel and be outdoors it’s just a little less mindful and a lot more fun. I’ve had the privilege of visiting 14 different countries and have hiked some of the most beautiful trails in the world including the Na Pali Coast in Kaua’i.
I am very proud of all of these experiences as they continue to keep me humble, grounded, and grateful. I look forward to seeing you at NRH!.
